Quiet Luxury…

The transformation of a Victorian double fronted property in Surrey Hills into a contemporary retreat suited for an established family called for a harmonious blend of formality and familiarity.

The spatial brief was to retain and refurbish the 4 generously proportioned front bedrooms and create a contemporary extension, incorporating open plan living, power room, separate study, master suite and utility spaces. The design response utilised a soft and layered palette to link the structured Victorian frontage, with its high ceilings, arches and fretwork, with the light filled extension.

The interior design and styling throughout is anchored in restraint. Layering of light neutral tones and texture fills the space with warmth and serenity. Linen s-folds filter the northern light and cast soft textural shadows inside. Cabinetry is subtle and understated, concealing and revealing delicately detailed vignettes of quiet luxury.

With the growing trend towards maximalism and away from white box minimalism, this project provides a great example of how to imbue personality and authenticity within a quiet contemporary envelope.
